As a candidate for ordination, you will have many opportunities to meet with pastors who will be your colleagues, DS’s who will decide your appointments, Board and Committee members who will provide ‘off the record’ references (good or bad) as pastors are considering taking on associates and people are being considered for Conference committees. But you won’t have a lot of time to make an impression. Have an elevator speech prepared.
Imagine you get on an elevator on the fifth floor. You step on and realize you are with the senior pastor of your dream church and you know he will be taking on a new associate at the next appointment season. You have until the lobby to introduce yourself and share enough about your calling and ministry goals to place yourself in consideration for the position.
Did you just hyperventilate a little at the thought? Or did you stutter and ramble on until the elevator hit the underground parking lot 6 stories below the lobby?
If you find yourself struggling on how to present yourself concisely and with relevance to your ministry goals, sign up for sessions with Whole Soul and discover this and much more on building relationships with your DCoM and BoM teams, writing paperwork, and preparing for interviews. It’s an investment in your future and a gift to your calling. Visit us at www.wholesoulconsulting.org for information and contact information.
